Mr. Iceman and the Ice Sculpture Contest

Mr. Iceman and the Ice Sculpture Contest …

“I need to make more ice,” said Mr. Iceman. “I need to make more ice sculptures.”

“I heard there is an ice sculpture contest,” said Warren, Mr. Iceman’s neighbour.

“That sounds like fun,” said Mr. Iceman. “I would like to enter.”

“I thought you might,” said Warren. “So, I already signed you up.”

“That is wonderful,” said Mr. Iceman. “Thank you. What are the rules for the contest?”

“You can create anything you like but it has to be made from a single block of ice,” said Warren.

“This is going to be good,” said Mr. Iceman. “All my sculptures are made from single blocks of ice.”

“I think you have a very good chance of winning,” said Warren.

Mr. Iceman went to work creating ice sculpture after ice sculpture. He was so happy. Ice sculpting made him feel creative and useful.

The closing date of the contest was coming up. Mr. Iceman was waiting for the judge to show up to judge his work. While he was waiting, he was in his garage fixing his chainsaw and he dropped a wrench on his foot. He screamed in pain.

“Oh dear!” Mr. Iceman heard a voice at the door of his garage. “Perhaps I should reconsider coming here to judge your work. Your screaming scared me half to death.”

“Wait!” yelled Mr. Iceman. “Please. I wasn’t trying to scare you. I dropped a wrench on my foot.”

“I don’t know,” said the judge. “I have a lot of sculptures to look at.”

“This isn’t fair,” said Mr. Iceman. “You haven’t even seen my work.”

“I am sorry,” said the judge, getting ready to leave.

The judge walked down the laneway but then stopped. Lucky for Mr. Iceman, the judge caught a glimpse of one of his ice sculptures.

“Is that yours?” asked the judge.

“Yes,” said Mr. Iceman. “It is one of many.”

The judge was so impressed with Mr. Iceman’s work that he gave him the first place prize on the spot.

“Your ice sculptures are incredible,” said the judge. “I am glad I caught that glimpse of your work. Otherwise, I would have missed your great work.”

“I am glad too,” said Mr. Iceman. “Thank you so much!”

Moral of this Story:

  • Don’t give up hope.
  • Example: Mr. Iceman was angry because the judge dismissed him from the contest before he even saw his work. Luckily, the judge saw a glimpse of it on his way out and Mr. Iceman won the contest.
