Cranky Bunny and No Easter

“Cranky Bunny!” called Mother, who had just come home from gathering some carrots from the garden. “Come quick. I have terrible news.”

“What is it?” asked Cranky Bunny, who was in his room, reading a book. “I am kind of busy.”

“Just come here,” said Mother. “You are going to want to hear this.”

“This better be good,” said Cranky Bunny, with a cranky attitude.

Cranky Bunny put down his book and went into the kitchen.

“What is it?” asked Cranky Bunny. “What is so important?”

“There is no Easter this year,” said Mother.

“What?” asked Cranky Bunny. “What do you mean there is no Easter?”

“Your friend, Julie, told me,” explained Mother. “She talked to the Easter Bunny. He is sick and has cancelled Easter.”

“Easter Bunny just can’t cancel Easter,” said Cranky Bunny with an even crankier attitude.

“Well,” said Mother. “He can and he did.”

“I need to save Easter,” said Cranky Bunny, grabbing his coat.

Cranky Bunny knew where the Easter Bunny lived. He set out to find him. He found Julie was already there at the Easter Bunny’s house when he got there. She was nursing the Easter Bunny back to health.

“You can’t just cancel Easter,” said Cranky Bunny with the absolute crankiest attitude ever.

“I can and I did,” said the Easter Bunny. “And, I don’t like your cranky attitude.”

“Don’t mind Cranky Bunny’s cranky attitude,” said Julie, who always sticks up for Cranky Bunny. “He is just upset because of Easter being cancelled.”

“Of course,” said the Easter Bunny. “I guess that was a shock to everyone.”

“I am sorry for my cranky attitude,” said Cranky Bunny. “I want to know what I need to do to save Easter.”

“Well,” said Easter Bunny. “We do still have two weeks until Easter. If you and Julie help me, maybe we can still have Easter after all.”

Julie worked at getting Easter Bunny better while Cranky Bunny prepared the enormous number of chocolates and other Easter gifts. The two worked very hard over the next two weeks.

“I want to thank the two of you very much,” said Easter Bunny the night before Easter. “It looks like we are going to have Easter after all. Cranky Bunny, you have prepared all the chocolates and gifts and Julie, you have nursed me back to health.”

Easter Bunny left Julie and Cranky Bunny an extra special chocolate bunny, for all their help and then he headed out to deliver all of the Easter gifts he had for children all over the world.

“Thank you,” said Julie.

“Yes,” said Cranky Bunny, actually smiling. “Thank you and Happy Easter.”

“Happy Easter to you both,” waved Easter Bunny as he hopped down the road.
