Cranky Bunny
“I shouldn’t have stayed up so late last night,” said Cranky Bunny, waking up one morning just before Easter. “I can feel that I am in a cranky mood already.”
“It is about time you woke up,” said Mother. “I need your help in planning our Easter dinner.”
“I am not going to help you,” yelled Cranky Bunny. “Ask Aunt Sarah to help.”
“How dare you be cranky with me?” Mother yelled. “You know something, I don’t like Easter.”
“Mother!” yelled Cranky Bunny. “How can you say that?”
“I know why she said it,” said Cranky Bunny’s best friend, Julie, who had just stopped by to see if Cranky Bunny wanted to go for a walk. “Your mother has done all the work preparing for Easter. She is trying to make sure that you have a good Easter. It is not fair that she has to do everything all by herself.”
“You are right,” said Aunt Sarah, coming into the kitchen and overhearing what Julie had just said. “I know your mother didn’t really mean it when she said she didn’t like Easter. I also know that I am partly at fault here as well, because I haven’t been helping out as much as I should. Let’s all pitch in and make this the best Easter ever.”
“Good idea,” said Cranky Bunny.
Mother made Cranky Bunny in charge of gathering food for their Easter dinner. Aunt Sarah was in charge of making an Easter dessert and Mother was in charge of cleaning the den.
“You do know that Cranky Bunny does love you,” Julie said to Cranky Bunny’s mother when Cranky Bunny left the room.
“Yes,” said Mother. “That I do know. I love him very much too. Sometimes his cranky mood is too much though.”
“It can be,” said Julie. “We just have to learn how to ignore him when he gets like that.”
“That is good advice,” said Mother.
“I also know he stayed up too late last night,” said Julie.
“I see,” said Mother. “And why was that?”
“Well,” said Julie. “That was my fault. He was helping me with my school work.”
“We must all make sure that Cranky Bunny gets enough sleep,” said Mother.
“I agree,” said Julie.
“Would you like to have Easter dinner with us?” asked Mother.
“Yes,” said Julie. “I would like that very much.”
“I would too,” said Mother. “And, I am sure Cranky Bunny would like it too.”
