Fawn Goes to the Forbidden Cave

“Spot, come with me,” said Fawn.

“Ah Fawn,” said Spot, angrily. “Every time you want to go somewhere, it always leads to trouble.”

“That’s not true,” said Fawn.

“Oh, it is so,” said Spot. “And you know it.”

“Well,” said Fawn. “Don’t you even want to know where I am going?”

“Not exactly,” said Spot.

“I’m going to the Forbidden Cave,” announced Fawn.

“You are going where!” exclaimed Spot.

“To the Forbidden Cave,” repeated Fawn.

“Why on earth would you want to go there?” asked Spot. “Don’t you know that once you enter that cave you cannot get out?”

“What are you talking about?” Fawn asked, angrily. “Of course I can get out.”

“Oh no you can’t,” said Spot. “Anyone that has ever entered the Forbidden Cave has never found their way out.”

“Why don’t you come with me and we’ll find out?” asked Fawn.

“This time,” said Spot. “I am going to let you go on your own. I am sick and tired of you always getting into trouble.”

“Suit yourself,” said Fawn.

“Be careful,” Spot called after him.

Fawn wasn’t listening. He started walking down the long country road. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining bright through the trees, but it just wasn’t the same without Spot.

At the end of the road, Fawn spotted the cave. He had heard a lot about this cave and, now he had finally found it.

The cave was surrounded by pretty wildflowers and brush. Fawn walked over to the entrance. It looked dark and eerie inside, but Fawn wasn’t afraid.

Inside, the cave glittered with beauty. A spectacular stream ran through it. Fawn took a cool, refreshing sip of water and then decided that he was going to take a dip. He had so much fun in the cave that he had forgotten all about the time. It was starting to get dark.

“I’d better be getting home,” said Fawn to himself. “Spot is going to love this cave when I show it to her.”

Fawn searched for the cave’s exit, but to his dismay, he couldn’t find it.

“How do I get out of here?” Fawn asked himself. “I’m lost. Maybe Spot was right after all. Maybe I’ll never find my out of here. Maybe I am stuck in here forever. Everything that I have ever tried to do in my life has lead to trouble. Finding this cave is no different. Oh, Spot. I wish that I had listened to you. I’m sorry!”

Fawn started to cry. He was scared and lonely, too. He got up and began wandering around the cave in the darkness. He was hoping that he would find someway out of the cave. However, the more he walked around, the more he got lost. There was no way out.

“Oh, what am I going to do?” cried Fawn. “I’ll never get out of here!”

Just then, a bright shiny object caught Fawn’s attention. It was sitting on a small ledge on the wall of the cave.

“That looks like a key!” exclaimed Fawn.

Fawn went over to the ledge and saw that it was a key. He reached over to pick the key up with his mouth and then he noticed something else. A door stood right next to the ledge.

“Oh!” cried Fawn. “I hope this door leads out of here!”

Fawn put the key into the keyhole of the door. Something amazing happened. The door opened!

“Oh boy!” cried Fawn, happily. “I’m free! I don’t believe it!”

“Fawn!” exclaimed Spot, coming around one corner of the cave. “Oh, I’m so glad you’re alright!”

“Spot,” said Fawn. “What are you doing here?”

“Well,” said Spot. “It was getting very late so, I came to find you. I was worried about you. I thought that maybe you had gotten lost and would never find your way out of the cave.”

“Me,” said Fawn. “Lost! I would never get lost!”
