Silly Monster
“Hey!” shouted Silly Monster. “What are you trying to do?”
Silly Monster was awaken by a loud noise just outside his den and when he went to see what was causing the problem, he was shocked and angered to see that there was a tractor sitting outside his front door, revving up its engine.
“What are you doing?” asked Silly Monster, approaching the tractor.
“You know what I’m doing,” said a very familiar voice to Silly Monster.
In the tractor sat Farmer Joe. Farmer Joe and Silly Monster have been enemies for years. No matter what, they could not ever get along with each other.
“You can’t just bust down my den!” cried Silly Monster.
“Want to bet!” exclaimed Farmer Joe, with a big sly grin on his face, taking a piece of paper out of the pocket in his overalls. “I now own the property your den sits on.”
“Oh wonderful!” exclaimed Silly Monster sadly. “Now I’ve got nowhere to live, nowhere to go.”
“Well,” said Farmer Joe. “You could always go live at the zoo. I know they’d love to have you.”
Silly Monster shuddered at that statement. He didn’t want to go live at the zoo. He knew he’d be exploited and he did not want that. He did not want people coming to look at him behind bars, gawking at him, making fun of him.
“No thanks,” said Silly Monster.
“Don’t you have any family?” asked Farmer Joe.
“You know I don’t,” said Silly Monster. “Remember, I’m part of your imagination. You created me.”
“Oh yeah,” said Farmer Joe, scratching his head. “Wonder why I ever did that?”
“Cause you were bored,” said Silly Monster.
“Well, I ain’t bored no more,” said Farmer Joe, revving the engine on his tractor, higher and higher.
“You know,” said Silly Monster. “I know you’re not going to tear down my den.”
“Oh yeah!” exclaimed Farmer Joe. “Just watch!”
Farmer Joe started to move the tractor right for the front door of Silly Monster’s den and then all of a sudden the tractor stopped dead.
“Well,” said Farmer Joe, stooping over in his tractor. “I guess you are right.”
“See,” said Silly Monster. “I knew you couldn’t do it and do you want to know why. I’ll tell you why. See, you created me and I’m a part of you even though you will never admit it and by hurting me, you also hurt yourself and I know you don’t want to do that.”
“Well,” said Farmer Joe. “See that is where you are wrong. The tractor just plum ran out of gas just now.”
