Strawberry Ice Cream

“It sure is hot today,” said Poor Mountain Mother, who was cleaning the kitchen floor. “This has been a very hot summer.”

“It certainly has,” said Poor Mountain Father. “It isn’t going to cool down any time soon.”

Poor Mountain Mother put away the mop and bucket and Poor Mountain Father saw her wipe the sweat off her forehead.

“Come on,” said Poor Mountain Father, taking Poor Mountain Mother’s hand.

“Where are we going?” asked Poor Mountain Mother.

“We are going to cool down,” said Poor Mountain Father.

Poor Mountain Mother and Poor Mountain Father got into their pickup truck and drove to the lake. They sat down at a picnic table close to the water. There was a nice cool breeze.

“Stay here,” said Poor Mountain Father.

Poor Mountain Mother smiled and did as she was told. She knew what Poor Mountain Father was doing.

I will take a small strawberry ice cream cone,” called Poor Mountain Mother.

Poor Mountain Father winked at her. He came back a few minutes later with two of the largest strawberry ice cream cones that Poor Mountain Mother had ever seen.

“I will never be able to finish all of this,” said Poor Mountain Mother.

“It isn’t often that we get a treat,” said Poor Mountain Father. “Besides, it will help you cool down.”

“Yes true,” said Poor Mountain Mother, eating her ice cream cone.

Poor Mountain Mother enjoyed her ice cream cone. She did manage to finish it.

“Thank you,” said Poor Mountain Mother.” I do feel much better now. I am a lot cooler, too.”

“Good,” said Poor Mountain Father. “That was the whole idea.”

Moral of this Story:

  • It is always a good idea to try to stay cool on a hot day.
  • Example: Poor Mountain Father saw that Poor Mountain Mother was very hot so he took her to the lake and he bought her a large strawberry ice cream cone.
