Slow-Poke’s Icy Walk

“I want to go for a walk,” said Slow-Poke.

“I don’t know if that is such a good idea,” said Mother. “It is very icy outside.”

“This has been a bad winter,” said Slow-Poke. “I have been stuck in the house for days. I promise I will be very careful.”

“Okay,” said Mother. “But please promise to be careful.”

“I will,” said Slow-Poke. “I promise.”

Slow-Poke was very happy that he was going to be able to get outside. However, it was very icy outside. He could feel his feet slipping on the ice.

“Slow-Poke,” called Mother from the kitchen window. “Be careful. I see that you almost slipped already.”

Slow-Poke walked very slowly down the driveway. It was very icy. It took him a lot longer to walk than it normally would. Mother watched out the front window and she held her breath.

“Oh,” said Mother to herself. “I can’t stand watching him on the icy driveway. He is going to hurt himself.”

Mother then noticed a bag of sand sitting by the front door. Carefully, she went outside and threw the sand down on the ice.

“Oh thank you so much,” said Slow-Poke, very grateful to Mother for her help.

“I didn’t want you to get hurt,” said Mother.

Mother decided to stay outside and have some fun with Slow-Poke. They both enjoyed the fresh air immensely.

Moral of this Story:

  • Always help someone before they get hurt.
  • Example: Mother laid down some sand on the ice so Slow-Poke wouldn’t slip.
