Eager Eagle
“Look up in that tree,” said Fawn.
“What tree?” asked Spot, who stopped in the middle of the road to take a look at where Fawn was pointing.
“That one right there,” said Fawn. “Is that a bald eagle in that tree?”
“Yes,” said Spot, finally finding the tree that Fawn was pointing at. “It is a bald eagle.”
“It almost looks like he is hiding,” said Fawn.
“Yes it does,” said Spot. “Just the way he is sitting so close to the trunk of the tree.”
“Hey!” screamed Fawn at the eagle. “What are you doing way up there?”
“Fawn!” exclaimed Spot. “You’ll scare the eagle away.”
The eagle flew down from the tree he was sitting on and sat on a post right beside Fawn and Spot.
“Hi,” said Fawn. “My name is Fawn and this is my friend, Spot.”
“Hi Fawn and Spot,” said the eagle. “My name is Eager.”
“Eager,” said Spot. “That is a nice name. It sure is a pleasure to meet you.”
“You too,” said Eager.
“So why did it look like you were hiding in that tree?” asked Fawn.
“Because I was hiding,” said Eager.
“But why would you have to hide,” said Spot. “You look like you could take on the world.”
Eager puffed his chest feathers out and was very flattered by Spot’s remark.
“Well,” said Eager. “See those birds sitting in the tree where I just was.”
“Yes,” said Spot. “I see them.”
“They were picking on me,” said Eager, sadly.
Fawn burst out laughing.
“Fawn!” exclaimed Spot. “Why are you laughing at Eager?”
“Well,” said Fawn. “Eager is afraid of those little birds. Some eagle he is.”
“You’d be afraid of them too,” said Eager. “Especially when the whole flock comes after you.”
Just as Eager said that the birds flew from the tree they were in and started coming toward Fawn, Spot and Eager. After a few pecks on the head, Fawn knew what Eager was talking about.
“I’m sorry,” said Fawn, rubbing his head. “I can see why you were hiding from them. Those small birds can hurt.”
