Billy Troll’s Christmas Song

“Where are you going?” asked Dianne Troll, Billy Troll’s wife, seeing him standing in the hallway of their log cabin with a huge garbage bag sitting on the floor beside him.

“I am going to the hospital,” said Billy. “I have all these gifts that I want to take to the sick children.”

“Baby Troll is sick,” said Dianne. “We won’t be able to go.”

“Oh okay,” said Billy Troll. “That is okay. Just let him rest.”

Billy arrived at the Troll Town hospital. One of the nurses met him at the admitting desk.

“The children are so excited,” said Troll Nurse. “They hardly slept a wink last night.”

Troll Nurse took Billy up to the third floor. There was a huge consultation room that the hospital let Billy use for this extra special event. When Billy entered the room, the children cheered.

“Billy Troll!” cried one of the children. “You are my hero. I know all the words to all of your songs.”

“Really,” said Billy. “Well it is nice to meet you. What is your name?”

“My name is Samantha,” said the little girl.

“Samantha,” repeated Billy. “What a pretty name. You know, I think I have a gift for you in this bag I brought with me.”

“A present for me,” said Samantha, excitedly.

After the children opened their gifts, Samantha came up to Billy and sat in the chair beside him, holding the new doll Billy had given her.

“Billy,” said Samantha. “Thank you for my new doll. I love her.”

“You are welcome,” said Billy. “I am glad you like her.”

“I have a gift for you,” said Samantha.

“You do?” asked Billy, surprised.

“Yes I do,” said Samantha. “Please hold my doll for me.”

Billy took Samantha’s doll and she got down off the chair. She stood in front of the group of children and started singing.

“Christmas, Christmas,” sang Samantha in her beautiful youthful voice. “You come once per year and bring music for all to hear. Christmas, Christmas.”

“That was absolutely beautiful,” said Billy, wiping a tear from his eye.

“That was your Christmas song from last year,” said Samantha.

“It certainly was,” said Billy. “I am going to be singing it this year. I would like you to come and sing it with me.”

“I would love that,” said Samantha.

Samantha was released from the hospital a few days later. Billy made arrangements to pick her up and drive her to the concert hall for the Christmas concert. She did a beautiful job singing with Billy.

“I loved that,” said Samantha, glowing with delight after the concert.

“I did too,” said Billy. “We will have to do that again.”

“Yes,” said Samantha. “I would love that.”

“Okay,” said Billy. “This summer, when you are on your summer vacation from school we can work on doing some more concerts together.”

Samantha reached over and gave Billy a big kiss on his cheek.
