Dust Storm
The Desert Kid was outside playing amongst the sage brush that was growing all up the side of the mountain. He was having lots of fun and he never noticed the huge cloud of dust that was coming straight toward him.
The Desert Kid felt his eyes sting and instinctively put his hands over his face. He knew what was happening. He had seen may dust storms in his life. He also knew that he had to find shelter and quick.
He remembered that he just seen a cave right behind him. Keeping his eyes shielded as best as he could, the Desert Kid found the cave and took cover.
Back at Desert Kid’s home, his mother saw the dust storm head right toward her son. She didn’t worry about the Desert Kid at all because she knew he would take shelter and she knew he’d be home just as soon as the storm was over. She also knew it would be very dangerous for her to venture into the storm to find him.
The Desert Kid stayed in the cave throughout the storm. He knew it would be dangerous to venture out. With a dust storm he knew that he would not be able to see ahead of him for more than a foot and it would be very easy to get lost.
The Desert Kid was lucky because in the center of the cave there was a small pool of water. He was very thirsty so the cool water was a relief to him.
The dust storm lasted for about two hours. The Desert Kid was very happy because he knew he would be able to go home.
