Mountain Kid in January
Mountain Kid in January …
Christmas has come and gone and January was settling into the mountains in British Columbia, Canada. It had turned colder and there is about a foot of snow on the ground.
Now just because it is January and just because it is cold does not mean that life in the mountains come to a stop. Things still need to be done no matter what the weather.
The best way to combat the cold weather is to dress properly for it. You want to make sure you dress in layers and if you do end up being too warm, you can peel layers of clothing off. One thing you want to do is to make sure you don’t sweat. Sweating will cause your clothing to become wet and damp and having wet or damp clothing against your skin in the cold can cause you to become sick.
Getting outdoors in January is a good idea. You may not want to stay outside for long periods of time but at least you can get some fresh air. Just because it is cold, it is so much easier to get into the habit of staying indoors. It may take time to dress for the weather but in the long run it will be worth it.
Once I am dressed, I stand on my front porch and my jaw drops in awe at the beautiful site in front of me. Tall majestic mountains, covered in snow against a deep, clear blue sky. The sight is out of this world.
