Unexpected Interruption
“It is Groundhog Day today,” said Silly Groundhog, proudly looking at himself in the mirror. “It is showtime.”
Silly Groundhog was just about to pop his furry head out of his hole when he heard a knock at his door. He hesitated, listening to the grumbling of the Storyland characters above.
“I truly thought I saw him coming out of his hole,” said Angry Baker, a Storyland character.
“So what does it mean when the groundhog doesn’t even come out of his hole?” asked Melissa, Angry Baker’s fiancee.
“Possibly it could mean that we are in for a very long winter,” said Angry Baker.
Meanwhile, it turned out that the knock was a delivery, but it wasn’t for him. He quickly returned to his hole and very slowly popped his head out. Some of the characters were turning to leave until Angry Baker called them back.
“It might have been a false start,” said Angry Baker. “He has popped out again and this time he is staying out.”
“I suppose even groundhogs get deliveries at odd hours,” said Melissa, chuckling. “I did just see the delivery truck.”
“It does appear that the groundhog is not seeing his shadow,” said Angry Baker, peering at Silly Groundhog. “That means we are going to have an early spring.”
The crowd erupted in cheers. They were very happy.
Silly Groundhog took a deep breath and addressed the crowd, “Thank you all for your patience. Even groundhogs can have unexpected interruptions.”
The characters laughed and applauded, relieved and excited about the early spring prediction. Silly Groundhog felt a warm sense of accomplishment as he realized how much joy he had brought to the community.
As the celebration continued, Silly Groundhog decided to make Groundhog Day even more special next year, with more activities and fun surprises for everyone. With a newfound sense of purpose, he vowed to make each Groundhog Day a memorable event for all of Storyland.
