The Valentine’s Day That Almost Never Came

“Oh no!” exclaimed Happy Heart. “It is Valentine’s Day and I am so sick with the flu. I don’t know how I am going to spread love and happiness today.”

Even though she was sick, Happy Heart got up out of bed. She went into the kitchen and tried to make herself a cup of tea. She was very dizzy so she thought she had better go sit down.

“What am I going to do?” asked Happy Heart. “There will be no Valentine’s Day if I don’t get out there.”

Happy Heart heard a knock at the door. She got up to answer it.

“Oh hello Julie,” said Happy Heart. “Please come in.”

“You don’t look well,” said Julie. “Would you like me to make you a cup of tea?”

“I am sick with the flu,” said Happy Heart. “And I would love a cup of tea. I tried to make one earlier but was too sick.”

Julie made Happy Heart a cup of tea. She sat with Happy Heart while she drank it.

“Thank you,” said Happy Heart. “So, how do you and your husband like living here in Kelowna? You too have been here a month already.”

“We like it just fine,” said Julie. “Brad has been busy at work and I have got all the unpacking done.”

“I sense there is something you aren’t telling me,” said Happy Heart. “Is that why you came here?”

“I have heard you spread love and happiness,” said Julie. “Today is Valentine’s Day and Brad is just too busy at his new job. I just want to have a nice dinner with him.”

“I happen to have two coupons for the best steakhouse in Kelowna,” said Happy Heart “They expire tonight. I won’t be using them.”

“Brad won’t want to go out after work,” said Julie. “I do appreciate the offer though.”

“They do deliver,” said Happy Heart.

“Oh,” said Julie, smiling. “That changes everything. That would be perfect. Thank you so much!”

“Glad I could help,” said Happy Heart. “Happy Valentine’s Day!”

“Happy Valentine’s Day,” said Julie. “As sick as you are, you are still able to spread love and happiness.”

“True,” smiled Happy Heart. “Very true!”
