Sunflower Suzie and the Crow

Sunflower Suzie was sitting in her garden enjoying the warm autumn day.

“It is a beautiful day,” said Sunflower Suzie. “It is warm and the autumn colours are at their best. They are beautiful.”

“Look at you!” laughed a crow as it flew over top of Sunflower Suzie. “You are a little strange.”

“Well you are very bold and very mean,” said Sunflower Suzie. “Have you never seen a sunflower before?”

“I have seen tons of sunflowers,” said the crow. “However, I have never seen a walking, talking, real life sunflower before.”

“And so,” said Sunflower Suzie. “Just because I am different, that makes me strange?”

“Yes,” said the crow. “It does.”

Sunflower Suzie was very upset. She got up from the garden and in tears, she went into the house.

“What is wrong?” asked George, Sunflower Suzie’s husband.

Sunflower Suzie told George about the conversation she had with the crow.

“Well the nerve of him,” said George. “That is not fair.”

Sunflower Suzie and George both went back to the garden the next day. The crow showed up and was just as bold and cruel as ever.

“Oh I see the sunflower is back,” said the crow.

George stood up and looked the crow right in the eye.

“How dare you speak to my wife like that! “exclaimed George, angrily. “You should be ashamed of yourself.”

“Oh dear,” said the crow, seeing how tall George was.

“Are you not aware that bullying and teasing someone is not nice?” asked George.

“I am sorry,” said the crow, flying away. “I really am sorry. I will never do that again.”

“I hope not,” said George. “I truly hope not.”

The crow flew away and the very next day, he visited the garden with a dozen roses for Sunflower Suzie.

“Thank you,” said Sunflower Suzie.” That was very nice of you.”

“You are welcome,” said the crow. “I do hope you can forgive me for bullying you.”

“I do forgive you,” said Sunflower Suzie.

Moral of this Story:

  • It is not nice to tell someone they are strange just because they are different.
  • Example: A crow told Sunflower Suzie that she was strange because she was a real life sunflower.
