Apple Monster is Thankful for Apples
“It certainly is a beautiful autumn day,” commented Apple Monster to Mrs. Queen, the queen ant.
“It certainly is,” agreed Mrs. Queen.
“What are your workers doing?” asked Apple Monster, who just happened to notice a few of the ants were taking apples directly off the tree. You know we have an agreement. You are only allowed to take apples that have fallen onto the ground.”
“Yes,” said Mrs. Queen. “I know we have an agreement. However, my workers did notice there were a few apples on the tree that were rotten. We didn’t think you would want them to remain on the tree because they could spoil the other apples.”
“Okay,” said Apple Monster. “That makes sense. I would not want the other apples to spoil.”
“That was a close call,” said Mrs. Queen to herself, as Apple Monster walked away.
Mrs. Queen was planning a Thanksgiving surprise for Apple Monster. She was going to bake him an apple pie. However, she needed a few good apples. She knew Apple Monster would be very upset if he saw the ants taking good apples off the tree.
The next day, Mrs. Queen and several of her workers carried the apple pie to Apple Monster.
“What is this?” asked Apple Monster, truly surprised.
“It is Thanksgiving,” explained Mrs. Queen. “I baked you an apple pie.”
“That is very kind of you,” said Apple Monster. “I hope you didn’t use rotten apples for this.”
“No,” admitted Mrs. Queen. “Yesterday, when you saw the workers taking apples from the tree, they were really taking a few good ones for your pie. I am sorry I lied to you.”
“I will forgive you this time,” said Apple Monster, taking a big bite of his apple pie. “This is so good. Thank you!”
“Happy Thanksgiving,” said Mrs. Queen.
“Same to you,” said Apple Monster.
“I am thankful for all you have done for us,” said Mrs. Queen.” We have always had a good share of apples that have hit the ground”.
“I am thankful for apples,” said Apple Monster. “In fact, I am so thankful that I will allow you and your workers to gather one good apple for each of you.”
Apple Monster had never seen the ants move so fast. In just a few minutes, the ants were all enjoying their special Thanksgiving treat.
