Tribute to Chris Cornell
Billy Troll had his hands full of suitcases and music gear, when he walked through the door to his home. He just returned home from a two month concert tour.
“Daddy!” yelled Troll Baby seeing Billy come through the door first.
Billy set what was in his hands on the floor and gave his son a big hug and kiss.
“Oh Billy! ” exclaimed Dianne, his wife, who was feeding the twins their breakfast. “You’re home early! We were just going to come get you at the airport.”
“I caught an early flight,” said Billy. “I want to spend as much time with my family as I can.”
“Well,” said Dianne. “We are very happy to have you home but, aren’t you exhausted?”
“Oh I am,” said Billy. “However, I really need to spend time with you and the kids.”
“I understand,” said Dianne.
Dianne knew that Billy was pretty shaken up about the news of Chris Cornell, committing suicide on May 18, 2017. Other rock stars have come and gone but Chris’ death hit Billy extremely hard.
Chris’ music impacted Billy. Billy worshipped the music of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, the three bands Chris was involved in. Billy didn’t know Chris personally but he did know Chris had a raw talent that nobody else had. Being a musician himself, Billy knew first hand of the ups and downs of being a rock star. He knew about how being on the road constantly and being away from loved ones could affect the mental health of a musician.
One thing Billy vowed to himself and to Dianne was that he would never take life for granted and he would never take his own life. He told Dianne several times in the past that he could never do that to her or their children.
“Billy,” said Dianne, concerned about him. “Are you okay? You seem like you are in another world.”
“I am fine,” said Billy. “Chris’ death still haunts me. He had so much talent and he was so young yet, too.”
“Yes,” said Dianne. “I guess we will never know what a person is truly thinking.”
“Very true,” said Billy. “I am always going to be truthful and honest with you and the kids about my feelings and thoughts. I think that is important.”
“I do too,” said Dianne. “At times, being a rock stars wife can have its moments as well.”
“Yes,” said Billy. “I totally understand about the pressures you face as well. It can’t be easy.”
“At times,” said Dianne, honestly. “No, it isn’t easy but I think our love for each other can overcome any negativity.”
“Dianne,” said Billy, with tears in his eyes. “If things ever get too much for you, promise me you will talk to me about it.”
“I promise,” said Dianne. “I want you to promise me the same thing. You know that you can talk to me about anything.”
“I do promise,” said Billy.
“Good,” said Dianne.
“I think communication about our true feelings is the key to our relationship being successful,” said Billy.
“I totally agree,” said Dianne.
“Now,” said Billy. “How are you and the kids doing? I have missed you all so much!”
“We have missed you as well,” said Dianne, giving her husband the biggest kiss and hug she could.
Billy spent a few quality hours with his wife and children before having a nap. He was exhausted but he was also very happy and grateful for his family. They mean the world to him.
