Poor Mountain Mother’s Family is Sick on Mother’s Day

Poor Mountain Mother woke up early on Mother’s Day. The sun was shining and it looked like it was going to be a beautiful day. She put on her robe and went downstairs. She saw a sink full of dirty dishes so she did them.

A few minutes later, Poor Mountain Father came downstairs. He looked very sick.

“Happy Mother’s Day,” said Poor Mountain Father, giving her a kiss on her forehead. “I am sorry. I didn’t have any money to get you anything for Mother’s Day. I was going to get up early and wash the dishes and then make you breakfast but I woke up feeling horrible.”

Poor Mountain Mother made Poor Mountain Father a cup of strong herbal tea.

“Thank you,” said Poor Mountain Father. “This tea feels good on my throat.”

Poor Mountain Sister and Poor Mountain Brother came downstairs about a half an hour later. They were also very sick.

“Happy Mother’s Day,” said Poor Mountain Sister.

Yes,” said Poor Mountain Brother. “Happy Mother’s Day. It looks like we have ruined Mother’s Day on you.”

“Nonsense,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “The three of you need me and I am here for you. I will take care of you and nurse you back to health.”

The Poor Mountain Family drank their tea and the three ill ones went back to bed. While they were sleeping Poor Mountain Mother tended to doing the laundry and cooking dinner.

Not once did Poor Mountain Mother complain about not getting anything for Mother’s Day. She was grateful that she even had her family to take care of. She loved them very much.
