Mountain Kid’s Autumn Hike

Mountain Kid woke up early one autumn morning. He had a good night sleep, was well-rested and full of energy.

“I think I should go for an autumn hike,” said Mountain Kid, drinking his morning cup of tea.

Mountain Kid packed himself a lunch and filled a canteen with water. He set out on his hike.

It was a beautiful autumn day. The sun was shining through the tall pine trees. Mountain Kid saw rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks scurrying around the forest floor.

As he climbed further up the mountain he felt the wind pick up and he noticed the temperature dropping. He stopped to do up the buttons on his jacket.

The further he climbed, the nastier the weather became. He stopped at a clearing and ate his lunch. While eating, he saw a bald eagle soar above him. He saw a few mountain sheep climbing the rocks on the mountain.

As soon as he was finished his lunch, he saw several dark clouds looming above.

“I think I am going to have to cut my autumn hike short,” said Mountain Kid to himself. “I don’t like the looks of those clouds.”

Mountain Kid made it down off the mountain just in time. A snowstorm raged over the mountain for the next few hours. One thing Mountain Kid learned after all the years he had been living in the mountains, was to never fool with the weather in the mountains. Mountain weather is very unpredictable.

Moral of this Story:

  • It is best to cut a mountain hike short if you see bad weather approaching.
  • Example: Mountain Kid saw bad weather approaching so he cut his mountain hike short.
