Apple Monster and Apple Pie

Apple Monster was sleeping underneath the only apple tree that he has ever known in his entire life. It was a cool autumn morning. The leaves in the forest had all changed colour and they would soon be falling to the ground.

“Good morning, Apple Monster,” Apple Monster heard a familiar voice say from behind him. “It sure is a lovely day today.”

“Yes,” said Apple Monster to Millie, an elderly grandmother that lived at the edge of the forest. “It is a lovely day indeed. I see you are out for your weekly trip to the market.”

“Yes,” said Millie. “Do you need anything?”

“No,” said Apple Monster, pointing to his apple tree. “I have everything I need right here.”

“Well,” said Millie. “Enjoy the rest of the day. I have to be on my way. I have an apple pie that I have to deliver to my cousin, Stan.”

Millie took the lid off the container that she was carrying the apple pie in. Apple Monster couldn’t believe how good it smelled. Before he could say anything, Millie had put the lid on it and was half-way up the hill.

No matter what he tried, Apple Monster could not get the smell of apple pie out of his head. He wanted some and he wanted some right then and there. He had never been so attracted to anything.

Apple Monster had never left the area of the apple tree. He never had a reason to, up until now. He looked around at his surroundings and he made a rash and hasty decision. He had to find Millie because he had to taste that apple pie.

Apple Monster walked in the direction that he saw Millie go. At first, he felt very strange walking away from the apple tree. He was feeling very anxious and he was going to turn and go back but the smell of that apple pie entered his mind and he knew he had to find Millie.

He walked quickly and soon, he saw Millie up ahead. He saw her walk up some stairs and knock on a door. He saw a man come to the door and take the pie from her. He saw Millie follow the man into the house.

Apple Monster ran up to the stairs and knocked on the door.

“Is Millie there?” asked Apple Monster, when the man answered the door.

Millie was standing right behind the man.

“Apple Monster,” said Millie, shocked to see him there. “What on earth are you doing away from your apple tree?”

“Who is this?” asked the man. “Is he bothering you?”

“Stan,” said Millie. “This is my friend from the forest, Apple Monster. Apple Monster, this is my cousin, Stan.”

“It is nice to meet you,” said Apple Monster, shaking Stan’s hand. “I am sorry to bother you but I have a strange thing to ask. I really would like to try a piece of your apple pie.”

“I don’t see that being a problem,” said Millie. “Stan, do you mind if Apple Monster has a piece?”

“No,” said Stan. “I don’t mind.”

Millie sliced Apple Monster a big piece of the apple pie. Apple Monster held it up to his nose and smelled it.

“This smells so good,” said Apple Monster.

Apple Monster took a big bite. It was like he was eating a slice of heaven. He couldn’t believe how good it tasted.

“This tastes so good,” said Apple Monster. “I love it.”

“Oh dear,” said Millie. “I think I have created a monster. I should never have let you smell the apple pie.”

“I think it is time I got out into the world and explored things,” said Apple Monster. “Look at all I have missed out on.”

“I suppose that is true,” said Millie.

Apple Monster had a whole new way of life to look forward to. He was looking forward to expanding his horizons and getting out in the world. He was no longer tied to his apple tree.
