Fawn Wins the Gold

“Good morning, Spot,” said Fawn, cheerfully. “How are you this fine morning?”

“Fawn, what are you up to?” asked Spot, knowing that when her friend, Fawn is cheerful, there is a reason.

“My, aren’t we suspicious?” asked Fawn.

“Fawn, just tell me what you are up to?” asked Spot. “I don’t have the patience for you this morning.”

“What is the matter with you, Spot?” asked Fawn.

“I have a bad headache,” said Spot. “I didn’t sleep very well last night.”

Fawn looked sheepishly at Spot.

“Oh alright,” said Fawn, guiltily. “I do have something I want to tell you about.”

“I knew it!” exclaimed Spot.

“I’m in training,” said Fawn, dashing around the barn.

“Training for what?” asked Spot.

“I’m going to be in next Olympics,” said Fawn.

“Now, I think I’ve heard everything,” laughed Spot. “Need I remind you that you are a cow and that cows aren’t allowed in the Olympics and, it is going to be another four years for the next Olympics.”

“I’ve already been accepted,” said Fawn, giving Spot an official looking letter. “Look. Read for yourself.”

Spot read the letter.

“Fawn, do you realize that this says you are supposed to be at this years Olympics in Sydney, Australia?” asked Spot.

“No, it’s supposed to be in 2004, in Athens, Greece,” said Fawn.

“Fawn, you’d better read this again,” said Spot, handing the letter back to her friend.

“Dear Fawn,” Fawn read aloud. “I am honoured to announce that you have been chosen to participate in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, in the 100 metre race.”

“Oh my!” said Fawn.

Just then the Ricky and Jenny Hansen rushed into the barn.

“Fawn, look a courier just arrived with this letter for you!” Jenny exclaimed, excitedly.

Fawn took the letter from Jenny and tore it open quickly. Airline tickets fell to the floor.

“Fawn, what is going on?” asked Ricky.

“Fawn is going to the Olympics in Australia,” said Spot. “Look, he just showed me this letter!”

“Wow! This is exciting!” the children exclaimed at the same time.

“Fawn, you are going to be famous!”

“Well, let’s go,” said Fawn. “We have an hour to get to the airport!”

“I’ve got to tell Mom and Dad,” said Jenny.

“I don’t believe it!” exclaimed Mr. Hansen. “That cow has gone completely off his rocker!”

The Hansen’s quickly packed up a few personal belongings and went to the airport.

Australia was and exciting place to be, especially with all the excitement of the Olympics!

Fawn had to hurry and get his Olympic outfit on once he arrived at the hotel. His race was in an hour.

“Get ready, set, go!” the announcer screamed. “This 100 metre race is the most exciting yet. It looks like we have a cow out there, in the field and I don’t mean just a grazing cow. Fawn Hansen from Mountain Grove, Ontario is competing in the 100 metre race!”

“Look at him,” said Mrs. Hansen. “He looks wonderful in his Olympic outfit!”

“Yes, he does,” admitted Mr. Hansen.

“Shh,” the children cried. “Look, Fawn is falling behind.”

“And Jules Johnson from Spain is in the lead, of the 100 metre race” they heard the announcer say. “Fawn Hansen is holding a strong second.”

“Oh Fawn,” cried the children, breathless.

“But wait,” said the announcer. “Fawn must have got his second breath! He is in the lead!”

“Oh!” cried Mrs. Hansen and Spot together.

“Fawn Hansen, is the winner of the 100 metre race!” the announcer shouted. “The first time in Olympic history that a cow has won a gold medal!”

“Fawn won!” the Hansen’s screamed. “He actually won!”

“I’m so proud of him,” said Mr. Hansen, happily.

“Well,” said the announcer to Fawn, after Fawn received his well-deserved gold medal. “You should be very proud of yourself! Congratulations! Do you have anything you would like to say to the crowd?”

“Yes,” said Fawn. “Winning this race means a lot to me. It just shows that if someone has their mind set on something, they can do it!”

“He is a special cow,” said Mr. Hansen. “Sometimes he is a little difficult to get along with, but deep down he is special.”

“Yes, he is,” everyone agreed, wiping tears of joy from their cheeks.
