Fawn and Grampy

“Hi Grampy,” said Fawn, happily. “How are you?”

“I’m fine,” said Grampy.

Fawn had not seen Grampy since Great Grandpa died.

“It’s just not the same without Great Grandpa, is it? asked Fawn seriously.

“No,” said Grampy. “It’s not. Great Grandpa was one of a kind.”

“I sure miss him,” said Fawn.

“I do too,” said Grampy.

Grampy pulled a can of orange pop out of his pocket and gave it to Fawn.

“Gee thanks, Grampy,” said Fawn.

“You’re welcome,” said Grampy.

“You know Grampy,” said Fawn. “When you are here, I don’t miss Great Grandpa as much.”

“Really,” said Grampy.

“Yes,” said Fawn. “Maybe it’s because you look a lot like him.”

“He sure was a great father,” said Grampy. “He was always there for us kids. He was always kind and warm-hearted and always ready do help us out in anyway that he could. Why, I remember when my three kids were young, he was always doing something with them. Up at the cottage, he would take the kids boating, swimming and fishing in the summer and then in the winter he would take them skating on the homemade rink he made.”

Grampy stood petting Fawn, while thinking of all the things Great Grandpa had done during his lifetime.

“I didn’t know that Great Grandpa had a cottage,” said Fawn.

“Oh yes,” said Grampy. ”His cottage was on Echo Bay Road in Bobcaygeon, ON. Great Grandpa built the cottage himself.”

“Wow!” exclaimed Fawn. “That would have been fun!”

“You would have loved it up there,” said Grampy. “You would also have loved all the food Great Grandma made for everyone.”

“Great Grandma is the best cook,” said Fawn. “I love her peanie and blues!”

“You too!” exclaimed Grampy.

”Yeah,” said Fawn. “Great Grandma definitely has me hooked on her peanut butter and banana sandwiches.”

“I don’t know anybody that doesn’t like Great Grandma’s peanie and blues!” laughed Grampy.

“When is Great Grandma going to come for a visit?” asked Fawn.

“Maybe in a few weeks,” said Grampy.

“That isn’t too far away,” said Fawn.

“No, it isn’t,” said Grampy, looking a little sad for a moment. “A couple of weeks will fly by pretty quickly. It will be here before you know it. Time sure flies by.”
