The Earth Day Catch

On a bright Earth Day, Environment Bug was hopping along the St. Lawrence River’s edge in New Brunswick. He was on a special mission to make sure the riverbank was clean and safe for all the creatures.

As he checked for litter, a friendly voice called out, “How’s our river looking today?”

Environment Bug turned to see Fishing Kid, with his fishing gear ready for a big catch.

“The riverbank is all clear!” Environment Bug beamed. “Any luck with the fish?”

“Not yet,” Fishing Kid sighed, “but I’m hoping for a nibble soon. Do you want to watch me cast my line?”

“I’d love to!” chirped Environment Bug, who had never seen fishing up close.

Fishing Kid swung his rod, and the bobber danced on the water. Suddenly, it began to sink.

“I’ve got something!” Fishing Kid whispered.

“How exciting!” whispered Environment Bug.

But oh no! The line snapped, and Fishing Kid carefully stepped into the water.

“What’s happening?” Environment Bug asked, wide-eyed.

“I’m getting back my bobber and the broken line,” Fishing Kid explained. “We can’t leave it here. It might hurt the fish or other animals.”

“That’s so kind of you,” Environment Bug said with a smile. “Especially today, because it’s Earth Day!”

“That’s right,” Fishing Kid nodded, holding the bobber. “We have to look after our Earth.”

“Thank you,” Environment Bug cheered. “You’re a true Earth hero!”

Fishing Kid tried again but caught no fish that day.

“Guess it’s not my lucky day,” he chuckled.

“But it’s a lucky day for our planet,” Environment Bug giggled, happy to have such a caring friend.

Moral of this Story:

  • Every action counts in protecting our planet.
  • Example: Even though Fishing Kid didn’t catch any fish, he made sure to retrieve the broken fishing line and bobber from the water, preventing harm to wildlife and keeping the environment clean.
