Patricia and John do not have children, so they cherish Rusty and treat him just like their son. Rusty is well-mannered and adored by nearly everyone, but his favorite way to show love is by licking people. Their neighbor, Mrs. Jones, frequently visits the ranch to gossip, which Patricia and John do not enjoy. Whenever Mrs. Jones starts yelling at Rusty, he enthusiastically licks her even more until she gives up and leaves. Because Rusty’s playful persistence helps keep unwanted gossip away, Patricia and John let his affectionate habit save the day.
