Character Notes
After catching her toe on the bottom step of her cottage, PuttPutts ignored the injury for weeks, telling herself it would heal on its own. She continued her daily chores despite the pain, but the broken toe only worsened, swelling and darkening until the bone shifted wrong beneath her skin. She finally accepted a heavy black boot to protect it, only to discover that sand poured inside with every step, grinding against her injured toe. When a clever, plump black cat led her to a pile of colorful elastics hidden beneath the coconut trees, PuttPutts began to wonder if the cat had spotted a solution she had missed.
