Gertie, Queen of Storyland Canada Stampede Stories
Gertie is the self-declared Queen of the Storyland Stampede, a woman who spends most of the year alone and largely unseen, only to burst back into the world each Stampede season in her pink cowboy hat and pink cowboy boots. For all ten days of the festival, she claims the Stampede grounds as her own, throwing herself into every challenge she can find and stumbling into some kind of pickle along the way – much to the amusement of onlookers who wonder if she is a little pickled herself. Beneath the mishaps and bravado lies a simple truth: the Stampede is the one time each year Gertie truly lets her hair down, transforming from a lonely woman into the vibrant, fearless queen she believes herself to be.
