A Beautiful Winter Day
“It is a beautiful winter day,” said Iris Icicle as she gazed out the frosted window, her breath leaving faint clouds on the glass. “I wish I could be outside to enjoy it.”
“Why don’t you take your work outside?” suggested Chelsea Chickadee, fluttering onto the windowsill with a delicate hop.
“I can’t,” Iris replied with a sigh. “My paints would freeze in this cold.”
“You could always take a notepad and pencil and sketch while outside,” Chelsea proposed, her feathers ruffling in the brisk winter breeze.
“I am not very good at sketching,” admitted Iris, her brow furrowing in doubt.
“You are so hard on yourself,” Chelsea chirped encouragingly. “You seem to forget that I’ve seen your sketches, and they are amazing.”
“Well, thank you for the compliment,” said Iris, a smile tugging at her lips. “I will think about it.”
“Don’t wait too long,” warned Chelsea. “Winter will be over before you know it.”
“You are right,” said Iris, grabbing a sketchbook and a pencil from her desk. “I will get to enjoy this beautiful winter day one way or another.”
Bundled up in her warmest coat, Iris ventured into the open field. The snow crunched beneath her boots, and the air was crisp with the scent of pine. She found a quiet spot near a little stream that had been covered in a shimmering layer of ice. Several little chickadees flitted from one branch to another on a very tall maple tree that had lost all its leaves and stood bare and proud against the winter sky.
Iris took a deep breath and began to sketch the serene winter scene before her. The delicate lines of her pencil captured the frozen stream, the playful chickadees, and the majestic maple tree. Her fingers moved with a newfound confidence as she filled her sketchbook with intricate details.
“That was a lot of fun,” said Iris, her cheeks flushed from the cold as she admired her sketches. “You are right. My sketches did turn out good.”
“And look at the color in your cheeks from being outside,” said Chelsea Chickadee, her eyes sparkling with pride.
“True,” said Iris with a satisfied smile. “Very true.”
As the sun began to set, casting a warm golden glow over the snowy landscape, Iris felt a sense of accomplishment and joy. She realized that sometimes, stepping out of her comfort zone could lead to unexpected happiness and new discoveries.
With a heart full of gratitude, Iris whispered to herself, “Today was a beautiful winter day indeed.”
