A Winter Cold
“I need to turn the winter thermostat up,” said Mr. Winter. “I am freezing.”
Mr. Winter dressed warm and walked the short distance to where the winter thermostat was located. He shivered all the way there.
“The winter thermostat reads +50 C,” said Mr. Winter. “That is actually not a bad temperature for the middle of winter. I shouldn’t be cold but I am.”
Mr. Winter couldn’t figure out why he was so cold. However, he started coughing and sneezing.
“I think I am sick,” said Mr. Winter. “I need to go see a doctor.”
Mr. Winter went straight over to see Dollie the Doctor. She took him in right away.
“So,” said Dollie the Doctor. “What brings you in here today?”
“I am sick,” said Mr. Winter. “I am freezing cold, coughing and sneezing. Am I going to live?”
“You will be fine in a few days,” said Dollie the Doctor, after checking Mr. Winter’s lungs, ears and throat. “You have a case of the common cold.”
“That’s it,” said Mr. Winter. “All I have is a cold!”
“Yes,” said Dollie the Doctor. “That is it. Are you the same Mr. Winter that is in control of the winter thermostat?”
“Yes,” said Mr. Winter. “I am.”
“It is no wonder that you are sick,” said Dollie the Doctor. “You keep turning that thermostat up and down, whenever the mood strikes.”
“Sometimes I get angry,” said Mr. Winter. “And, when that happens, I turn the thermostat way down. When I am happy, I turn it up.”
“I see,” said Dollie the Doctor. “Let me check your blood pressure.”
Dollie the Doctor checked Mr. Winter’s blood pressure and it was through the roof.
“You do realize that when you are angry, that causes your blood pressure to be high,” said Dollie the Doctor. “You must control your anger. Also, when was the last time you had a physical done?”
The blank look on Mr. Winter’s face told Dollie the Doctor what she needed to know.
“Let’s schedule you in for a complete physical,” said Dollie the Doctor.
“Okay,” said Mr. Winter. “In the meantime, what can I do about my cold?”
“Drink lots of fluids, rest and stay away from the thermostat,” said Dollie the Doctor. “Doctor’s orders.”
“Fine,” said Mr. Winter.
