A Very Unmerry Christmas
Unlucky Uncle Ungus was at the shopping mall. It was Friday the 13th and there were only twelve days left until Christmas.
“I should buy myself a Christmas present,” said Unlucky Uncle Ungues. “All my sweaters are full of holes. I think I should boy myself a new sweater.”
Unlucky Under Ungus saw a really nice pullover. It was his favourite navy blue colour with white stripes on the sleeves. Unlucky Uncle Ungus tried it on and it fit him perfectly. He would have bought two of them but there was only one left.
When Unlucky Uncle Ungus got home, he was going to wrap the sweater and put it under the tree but the phone rang. He set the sweater down on the bed but it fell off and landed in the dirty clothes basket.”
That evening, Unlucky Uncle Ungus put a pile of dirty towels on top of the basket. He took the basket into the laundry room. Because he was washing towels, he poured some bleach into the wash.
Just before he closed the lid on the washing machine, he noticed his sweater in the washer.
“My brand now sweater!” cried Unlucky Uncle Ungus. “It is ruined!”
Unlucky Uncle Ungus was so distraught. He really liked that sweater.
“I am going to have a very unmerry Christmas this year,” said Unlucky Uncle Ungus. “That is what I get for buying myself a Christmas gift on Friday the 13th.”
Unlucky Uncle Ungus searched all the malls in town to see if he could find another sweater like that one but there wasn’t a single one left in the whole town.
“We did have one,” one saleslady said. “But a jolly man in a red suit just bought it.”
Christmas morning came. Unlucky Uncle Ungus wished he was opening up his sweater. He saw a gift all wrapped up under the tree. He was so sad that he wasn’t going to opening but, something told him to.
“Oh my,” said Unlucky Uncle Ungus, with tears in his eyes. “My sweater!”
Unlucky Uncle Ungus was shocked. Someone had bought him the very same sweater that he ruined in the washing machine. He was so happy.
“Merry Christmas, love Santa,” Unlucky Uncle Ungus read on the tag that was on the gift wrap. “PS, don’t put this one in the wash.”
“Oh that Santa Claus,” laughed Unlucky Uncle Ungus. “He must have been the one that saleslady was talking about, the jolly old man in the red suit!”
