Ice Skating
“I want to do something fun today,” said Fawn.
Fawn had been cooped up in the barn for almost a week now because it had been so bitterly cold outside.
“Well,” said Spot. “What would you like to do? It is still cold outside so I don’t know if you would want to do anything outdoors.”
“I wouldn’t mind getting some fresh air,” said Fawn. “If we were dressed properly, we could do something.”
“True,” said Spot. “We could both use some fresh air. We’ve been stuck inside now for almost a week.”
“I know,” said Fawn. “Let’s go ice skating.”
“Ice skating,” said Spot. “You know, that sounds like fun.”
“Okay,” said Fawn, shaking his head. “This is a little weird to me. You think ice skating sounds like fun? Normally you would be telling me how dangerous it is and how I shouldn’t even think of doing such a thing.”
“Yes,” said Spot. “Normally that is what I would say. However, I am just as bored as you are being cooped up here for a whole week and I desperately need to get some fresh air.”
“But what about the danger of ice skating?” asked Fawn. “Ice skating is pretty dangerous.”
“Yes true,” said Spot. “It is dangerous but if you take it easy and take it slow it wouldn’t be that dangerous.”
“Do you really think ice skating is all that much fun?” asked Fawn.
“You know,” said Spot. “I could almost swear that you were trying to talk yourself out of it now.”
“Me,” said Fawn. “No, never. I want to go ice skating.”
“You know,” said Spot. “If you really didn’t want to go, I wouldn’t really mind.”
“Are you sure?” asked Fawn.
“Yes,” said Spot. “I am sure.”
“Well,” said Fawn. “I do really want to go but then again I don’t want to get hurt either.”
“I understand,” said Spot, smiling to herself.
Spot didn’t really want to go ice skating at all but did want to see if Fawn would make the right decision.
