A Beautiful Mother’s Day Garden

“Mother’s Day is approaching,” said Annie, a sweet elf child with a twinkle in her eye. “We must do something extraordinary for Mother.”

“I have the perfect idea,” said Jason, Annie’s elf brother, her steadfast companion, and her best friend for life.

“What?” Annie inquired, her curiosity piqued. “What can we do for Mother?”

Jason took Annie by the hand, leading her out into a meadow where the wildflowers nodded in the gentle breeze. They stood in the field, and Annie looked around, puzzled.

“Over here,” Jason directed, pointing to a secluded spot behind a stone wall overgrown with ivy.

“Oh!” Annie exclaimed, her face lighting up. “It’s Mother’s old garden!”

“Yes,” Jason affirmed. “I thought we could restore it and plant some of Mother’s favorite flowers.”

“What a splendid idea!” Annie beamed.

In the days that followed, Jason and Annie labored diligently, reviving the neglected garden. They were ready to plant Mother’s cherished blooms: daisies, gardenias, and asters.

“Isn’t it magnificent?” Annie asked, stepping back to admire their handiwork. “Mother will be overjoyed!”

“Indeed,” Jason agreed, his eyes reflecting pride. “She will be.”

When Mother’s Day dawned, the children were brimming with excitement, barely touching their breakfast.

“What has gotten into you two?” Mother asked with a smile.

“Come with us,” Jason urged.

They led Mother to the rock wall, hands intertwined.

“Close your eyes,” Jason and Annie instructed in unison.

They guided Mother carefully around the wall.

“Surprise!” the children exclaimed.

“What surprise?” Mother Elf asked, bewildered.

Jason and Annie’s smiles faltered as they surveyed the scene. The garden was gone.

“What happened to the garden?” Annie cried, tears welling in her eyes.

“What garden?” Mother Elf echoed, confused.

“We rejuvenated your old garden and planted new flowers,” Jason explained, his voice trembling.

“They were your favorites,” Annie sobbed.

“Oh, my!” Mother Elf gasped, aghast. “Our neighbor needed bricks, so I gave them to him. He must have taken them last night. I’m so sorry, my dears. I had no idea.”

The children, seeing Mother Elf’s distress, didn’t want to add to her sorrow, especially on Mother’s Day. They comforted her and led her back to the house.

“Oh, look!” Mother Elf exclaimed, embracing her children.

They were astonished to find their neighbor beside their home, planting flowers in a new bed.

“You gave me the bricks,” the neighbor explained, “but I thought you might want the flowers since they seemed freshly planted.”

“Oh, my!” Mother Elf cried. “The children planted them for me for Mother’s Day!”

“Happy Mother’s Day!” the children cheered, their spirits lifted as they danced around the new garden.
