Opposite of Summer is Winter

It was a warm summer day and Missy Opposite was sitting on the front porch with her mother.

“It sure is warm outside today,” said Mother.

“It is,” said Missy Opposite. “The sun is shining and it is so warm out.”

“Do you know what the opposite of summer is?” asked Mother.

“The opposite of summer is winter,” said Missy Opposite.

“Yes,” said Mother. “That is right. Do you know why they are opposites?”

“I do,” said Missy Opposite. “Summer is hot and winter is cold. In the summer we can spend more time outside and in the winter we have to find ways to keep from being cold.”

“That is right,” said Mother.

“In the summer we can go for walks or we can go swimming,” said Missy Opposite. “In the winter we can sit by the fireplace and drink hot chocolate.”

“I am very impressed,” said Mother. “Now, let’s enjoy this beautiful summer day while we can.”

“That is a wonderful idea,” said Missy Opposite. “I would like to go to the park.”

“Yes,” said Mother. “I would too.”

Missy Opposite and Mother enjoyed their time at the park together.

“I am glad it is still summer,” said Missy Opposite that evening when Mother tucked her into bed.

“I am too,” said Mother. “Winter will be here before we know it.”
