Billy’s Valentine’s Surprise

Billy Troll was standing at the check-out counter in the Troll Town Food Mart when he heard someone call his name. Turning around, he saw an old friend of his, Frankie Troll.

“Hey Billy,” said Frankie Troll, the owner of the “Roses are Forever” florist shop in Troll Town. “How’s that lady friend of yours doing?”

“Who, Dianne?” asked Billy. “She’s alright, why?”

“Well, you do know that Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, don’t you?” asked Frankie.

“Valentine’s Day!” exclaimed Billy. “No, I didn’t know. With my upcoming concert, I had forgotten all about it!”

“I just happen to have some very beautiful floral bouquets, especially for Valentine’s Day,” said Frankie. “Why don’t you come by the shop sometime and I could show them to you?”

“I really appreciate your help, Frankie,” said Billy. “However, this year I want to give Dianne something that she will remember forever!”

“What would that be?” asked Frankie.

“I’m not too sure, yet,” said Billy. “I will think of something.”

“Well, if you have any problems,” said Frankie. “Just let me know.”

“Thanks,” said Billy, paying for his groceries and leaving the store.

“Hmm,” said Billy to himself, as he put his groceries into the trunk of his car. “What will I give Dianne for Valentine’s Day?”

Billy thought long and hard about it. This year, he didn’t want to give Dianne just anything. He wanted to give her something special.

“I know,” said Billy. “I’ve got it. Oh, this is perfect!”

Billy went home and put his groceries away. Dianne came by a little while later.

“Billy, what are you smiling about?” asked Dianne, suspiciously. “What’s going on?”

“Nothing,” said Billy.

“Well, it looks like something to me,” said Dianne. “I haven’t seen you this happy in a long time. Anyway, what are you doing for Valentine’s Day?”

“Valentine’s Day!” exclaimed Billy. “Oh, is Valentine’s Day coming up already?”

“Yes it is,” said Dianne. “It’s in another two weeks.”

“Well let me see,” said Billy. “I’ve got a concert at the high school that night.”

“Oh yes,” said Dianne. “I knew that there was something going on, I just couldn’t remember what it was.”

“You’re coming, aren’t you?” asked Billy.

“Of course I am,” said Dianne. “I wouldn’t miss one of your concerts for the world.”

“Great!” said Billy.

Valentine’s Day rolled around. Billy was very busy preparing for his concert when Dianne phoned him.

“Billy, I’m glad that I caught you,” said Dianne, who was very upset.

“Dianne, what’s wrong?” asked Billy.

“I’ve lost my ticket to your concert tonight,” said Dianne. “I don’t know what I’ve done with it, but I can’t find it anywhere!”

Dianne was just about ready to burst into tears.

“Look, Dianne,” said Billy. “Come down to the high school, anyway. You don’t need a ticket for my concerts.”

“But don’t you have to be a performer to get in for free,” said Dianne.

“Don’t worry about it,” said Billy. “Just come around to the back of the gymnasium. I’ll see that you get in.”

“Thank-you Billy,” said Dianne, sounding much better, now. “I’ll see you tonight. Good luck tonight, Billy.”

“Yes, you too,” said Billy.

Billy arrived at the high school just in time for the opening act to finish up. The crowd was on their feet, screaming his name, over and over again.

“Billy! Billy!” they shouted. “We want Billy!”

Billy saw Dianne standing outside of the gymnasium door. He went over to the door and ushered her in.

“Hi Billy,” she said. “Thank-you.”

“No problem,” said Billy.

It was time for Billy to perform.

“Looks like you’re wanted,” said Dianne.

“Yeah, it looks that way,” said Billy, taking Dianne’s hand in his. “Come on, let’s show this town what we can do!”

“What!” exclaimed Dianne. “What are you doing?”

“This is your Valentine’s Day present,” said Billy. “You are going to perform with me tonight!”

“Oh Billy!” exclaimed Dianne, happily. “This is just wonderful!”

Billy led Dianne onto the stage beside him.

“Howdy folks!” said Billy into the microphone. “I’ve got a special treat for you tonight. Dianne Troll is going to sing with me tonight!”

Dianne’s voice sounded clear and sweet to the audience. They loved her! At the end of the concert, the audience was very excited.

“Billy! Dianne!” they shouted. “We want Billy and Dianne!”

“Look at that,” said Billy. “Your first night on stage and they want you to do an encore!”

Dianne looked into Billy’s eyes. He could see tears forming.

“What’s wrong, Dianne?” asked Billy.

“Nothing’s wrong,” said Dianne. “You have just given me the very best Valentine’s Day present that anyone could ask for!”

Moral of this Story:

  • It is good to think outside of the box on Valentine’s Day.
  • Example: Billy Troll let Dianne perform with him onstage at his Valentine’s Day concert. That was his Valentine’s Day gift to her.
