Forgetful Fred Forgot Mother’s Day

Forgetful Fred was walking home from the grocery store and saw his Mother pull up into his driveway.

“Mother,” said Forgetful Fred, a little surprised. “It is so nice to see you.”

“Forgetful Fred,” said Mother. “You invited me to come for dinner.”

“I did,” said Forgetful Fred, trying to think of why he had invited his Mother for dinner and then thinking that it must be her birthday. “Happy Birthday!”

“It isn’t my birthday,” said Mother. “It is Mother’s Day.”

“Well then,” said Forgetful Fred. “Happy Mother’s Day.”

“Thank you,” said Mother. “Now, what is for dinner?”

“Dinner!” exclaimed Forgetful Fred.

“Oh dear,” said Mother. “You forgot about cooking me dinner.”

“Well actually,” said Forgetful Fred, not able to lie to his Mother. “I did forget. However, there is a nice new restaurant down the street. How about going out for dinner?”

“Sure,” said Mother. “Do you have your wallet with you?”

”Yes,” said Forgetful Fred. “I do.”

Forgetful Fred and Mother went inside the house so that he could put the groceries away. Out of force of habit, he set his wallet on the kitchen counter.

Forgetful Fred and Mother had a nice meal together. Forgetful Fred went to pay for the meal but he couldn’t find his wallet..

“Are you looking for this?” asked Mother, handing Forgetful Fred his wallet that she saw him put on the counter at home.

“Yes,” said Forgetful Fred, a little embarrassed. “Thank you.”
