Pumpkin Fairy’s Fall Wedding
“Today is your big day,” said Linda Patterson, the owner of the biggest pumpkin patch in the northern section of the county. “It isn’t very often that we have a wedding here in the pumpkin patch. It is such a beautiful autumn day. I am so honoured that you have chosen to get married here.”
“I am honoured that you agreed to us getting married here,” said Pumpkin Fairy. “You know how much this pumpkin patch means to me. I grew up here. It is the only home I have ever known. I am going to be sad if Pumpkin Prince wants to move from here.”
“Oh dear,” said Linda. “I just assumed you would be staying here.”
“Pumpkin Prince hasn’t said anything about where we are going to live yet,” said Pumpkin Fairy. “I do hope it will be here though.”
Pumpkin Prince had overheard the conversation between Pumpkin Fairy and Linda. He had an idea that would make his bride-to-be very happy. Pumpkin Prince pulled Linda aside and spoke to her about his idea. He made her promise that she wouldn’t say anything to Pumpkin Fairy.
“I promise,” said Linda.
Linda went back to help Pumpkin Fairy get ready for her wedding day. There was so much to do that she didn’t give her conversation with Pumpkin Prince a second thought.
“The ceremony starts in two hours,” said Linda. “We must get you ready.”
“I have my gown laid out on the bed,” said Pumpkin Fairy. “I am going to do my hair in about ten minutes and then get dressed.”
“Who is going to walk you down the aisle?” asked Linda.
“Oh dear!” exclaimed Pumpkin Fairy. “I never thought of that. My father would have if he were still alive.”
“True,” said Linda, remembering Pumpkin Fairy’s father. “Your father was a great man. He served the northern section of the county for almost 30 years as the chief judge. A thought just occurred to me. What about Farmer John? I am sure he would be honoured. I know he has a lot of respect for you.”
“He would be my first choice,” said Pumpkin Fairy. “Farmer John and I have gotten really close in the last few years. He is a wonderful neighbour.”
“Okay,” said Linda. “I will talk to him.”
“Thank you,” said Pumpkin Fairy.
“What about something borrowed, something new, something old and something blue?” asked Linda.
“I have an old pearl necklace that my mother gave me just before she passed away,” said Pumpkin Fairy. “Now I need something borrowed, something new and something blue.”
“I have something that I want to give you,” said Linda, as she handed Pumpkin Fairy a little velvet box.
“Oh dear,” said Pumpkin Fairy, looking at a gold hairpin. “It is beautiful.”
“That will take care of the something new,” said Linda.
“I have a blue lace handkerchief that my mother gave me years ago,” said Pumpkin Fairy. “That will take care of something blue.”
“We just need something borrowed,” said Linda.
Just then, Mrs. Jones, a neighbour came in to see how the bride-to-be was doing.
“You look gorgeous,” said Mrs. Jones. “What a beautiful bride!”
“Indeed,” said Linda. “She needs something borrowed. We have taken care of the something old, something new and something blue.”
“I have just the thing,” said Mrs. Jones, digging into her purse and pulling out a hair band. I can lend you this.”
“That would be wonderful,” said Pumpkin Fairy. “Thank you very much!”
Linda left Pumpkin Fairy and Mrs. Jones to tend to the hair and makeup. She had to find Farmer John.
“I would be delighted to walk Pumpkin Fairy down the aisle,” said Farmer John, sincerely.
“Okay wonderful,” said Linda.
Linda went back to see Pumpkin Fairy. Mrs. Jones was just putting the finishing touches on her makeup.
“Okay,” said Linda. “Let’s get you into your wedding dress.”
Pumpkin Fairy slipped into her light orange coloured wedding gown. She looked absolutely radiant.
“You are the most beautiful bride I have ever seen,” said Linda.
Farmer John showed up in his best three-piece suit. Linda fixed his crooked tie for him.
“My,” said Mrs. Jones, when she saw Farmer John. “You look most handsome!”
“Thank you,” blushed Farmer John.
It was time for Pumpkin Fairy to walk with Farmer John down the aisle. She was so nervous but her nervousness vanished when she saw Pumpkin Prince waiting for her at the altar. He was the most handsome man she had ever met.
Pumpkin Fairy and Pumpkin Prince said their vows and as soon as they were pronounced man and wife, Pumpkin Prince announced that he was the new owner of the pumpkin patch.
“Oh my!” exclaimed Pumpkin Fairy, happily. “Does mean I won’t have to leave my home? And, what about Linda?”
“I am retiring,” said Linda. “I am leaving the pumpkin patch to two very competent people.”
“And yes,” said Pumpkin Prince. “You won’t have to leave your home.”
“I love you,” said Pumpkin Fairy, kissing Pumpkin Prince. “We are going to have the best life ever.”
