Clay the Office Cleaner

“Clay!” shouted Clay the Office cleaner’s best friend, Earl.

“Oh hi Earl,” waved Clay as he hopped into his pickup truck. “I’m late for work. Can we talk tomorrow?”

“Since when will you ever be late for work,” said Earl, looking at the time on his phone. “You still have an hour left before your shift starts.”

“Lock Earl,” said Clay. “Today is my first day as being the supervisor. I can’t mess it up.”

“Why don’t you call in sick and come fishing with me?” asked Earl. “We haven’t hung out in so long.”

“I will do no such thing,” said Clay. “I have worked very hard to get to where I am.”

“Fine!” shouted Earl. “Have it your way. I will go fishing by myself. I have been doing that a lot lately.”

“I have worked a very long time to get to where I am today,” said Clay. “I can’t just drop everything to go fishing with you, Earl. I need to stay focused.”

“When will you have time for me?” asked Earl. “What with your busy schedule and all?”

“How about this weekend?” asked Clay. “Now that I am a supervisor, I get the weekends off.”

“Now that you are a supervisor,” said Earl. “You can get me a job.”

“Not until you show me some responsibility,” said Clay, starting up the truck and driving away.
