Arrow – Character Insight
Arrow was black and white with an arrow marking on his forehead and another one on his back. Arrow was a special cat because he had an extra toe on both of his front paws. His front paws look like catchers mitts. When Arrow was a baby, I often wondered if he would grow into his paws. When he got much older, his front paws really weren’t all that noticeable.
It really didn’t matter to me that Arrow was special. I loved him for the cat that he was. Over the 14 years that I had him, Arrow and I had been through a lot together. He had seen me through the darkest days of my life.
Arrow always seemed to know when I was sick or when something was wrong. He would not leave my side. At any given time, if I was in the house, you could rest assured that Arrow was very close by. If he was not in the same room as I was, he was somewhere in the house where he could see me.
I think the close connection I had with Arrow started when he was a baby. Arrow came to me at a time when I couldn’t walk because of severe back pain that I was having at the time. Arrow was so small that he had to be carried and placed into his litter box. He couldn’t climb over the sides of the litter box because his legs were so small. I would pick him up and place him in his litter box every few hours to make sure he didn’t make a mess in the house.
Arrow was the one that I credit to getting me walking again. Someone had to take care of him and because I was home all day and night, that someone was me.
Arrow was so tiny when I first got him that at night I would let him sleep on my pillow beside me. It is funny because the only time Arrow purred was when he slept on my head on my pillow. I used to fall asleep to Arrow purring in my ear.. To me, it was the most soothing and relaxing sound ever.
I loved the fact that Arrow would curl up on my head, put his furry face on my ear and purr. However, one thing I didn’t think about when he was younger was the fact that he would grow into such a big cat. When he was little, he didn’t take up very much room on my pillow but once that he had gotten biiger, he took up more than half of it. I really didn’t mind though because I loved Arrow more than any other animal in this world.
Arrow was the most devoted cat anyone could ever ask for and I was honoured to be his Mommy. Now, don’t get wrong, Arrow wasn’t perfect and he certainly did know how to get himself into trouble but then he was a cat after all and cats do tend to get themselves into some pretty funny situations.
Arrow had brought so much joy to my life with his crazy antics and he had always found a way to make me laugh, even in some of the darkest days of my life.
