Slow-Poke’s Stormy Day

“It is a beautiful sunny summer day,” said Slow-Poke Duck to himself. “I think I will go for a swim.”

Slow-Poke slowly waddled down to the pond. The water was very cool against his pure white feathers. He was having so much fun swimming.

“I hope it stays nice like this all day,” said Slow-Poke. “The water feels so nice. I could swim all day.”

Unfortunately for Slow-Poke, there were some dark clouds forming in the sky.

“Oh no!” exclaimed Slow-Poke. “Those clouds look like storm clouds.”

Slow-Poke knew he needed to get out of the water quickly. However, he thought he had time for just one more swim.

“I don’t want to get out of the water,” said Slow-Poke. “I am having too much fun swimming.”

Slow-Poke waited just a little too long to get out of the water. Soon, it got very dark and it started to rain. Then Slow- Poke heard a loud roar of thunder. Soon, a streak of lightning lit up the sky.

Slow-Poke was frightened. He did, however see a bunch of bulrushes up ahead. He swam over to them and hid amongst them until the storm was over.

“Next time I will get out of the water as soon as I can when I see dark clouds forming,” said Slow-Poke, walking home. “That storm was scary.”

Moral of this Story:

  • Try to give yourself lots of time to get out of the water if you see storm clouds.
  • Example: Slow-Poke saw the storm clouds coming but he thought he had lots of time for another swim before getting out of the water.
