Easter Corner Begins

Storyland Canada – Corners – Easter Bunny – Chapter 1

Easter Bunny set down his basket in the empty space where Easter Corner would soon stand. His list pressed against his chest under his blue vest. Eight names. Eight baskets to fill before the sun rose over Storyland Canada on the first morning of spring. He had the joy, certainly. He had the list. But he needed a place to work.

He spotted a basket stand leaning against his cottage, its birch branches still wrapped in last autumn’s straw. Eight compartments waited in its frame. Perfect. He dragged it to the center of the clearing and brushed away the old wrapping. The birch gleamed pale gold in the pre-dawn light. He pulled his list from under his vest and smoothed it flat against the stand’s top rail. Eight names matched eight empty spaces. Now he could begin.

But the cottage door stood locked, and he’d left the key inside yesterday. His paints, his chocolates, his trinkets—all trapped behind whitewashed walls while darkness thinned overhead. He pressed his paw against the round window. Through the glass he saw shelves lined with supplies. Decorated eggs sat waiting in careful rows. Ribbon spools hung from pegs. Everything organized, everything ready, everything useless.

He stepped back and studied the thatched roof, the flower boxes, the brass sundial rising from the garden stones. Its shadow pointed to the carved line that meant two hours until sunrise. Two hours to fill eight baskets with enough joy to welcome spring. He couldn’t pick the lock—his paws were too fluffy for such work. The window was too small to squeeze through. Then he noticed the sundial’s shadow creeping forward, and he understood. He didn’t need to get inside. He needed to work outside, under the open sky, the way spring itself arrived—without walls, without barriers, without anything between the gift and the world that needed it. He turned back to the basket stand and pulled the first empty basket from its compartment. Easter Corner had just become real.
