Christmas Building 2024 – Apartment 15 – Franny Granny
Franny Granny sat in her cozy living room, surrounded by the warm glow of twinkling lights and the soft hum of Christmas music. Her granddaughter, Tracey, sat beside her, scrolling through an online Christmas catalogue.
“Tracey dear,” said Franny Granny, her voice warm and gentle. “What do you want for Christmas this year?”
Tracey’s eyes sparkled as she pointed to a picture of a beautiful sweater on her phone.
“I want this sweater for Christmas,” she said, her voice filled with excitement.
Franny Granny’s face fell as she realized the sweater was from a popular online store, and it was already late in the season.
“There’s no time to order one now,” she said, trying to hide her disappointment. “Is there anything else you’d like?”
But Tracey’s heart was set on that sweater.
“I saw it at that new store in the mall,” she said, her eyes shining with hope.
Franny Granny felt a knot of tension form in her stomach as she considered the crowded mall and the long lines. But she was determined to make her granddaughter happy.
“Oh, I’ll see what I can do,” she said, trying to sound cheerful.
The next morning, Franny Granny set off for the mall, determined to find that sweater. She arrived early, but the mall was already packed with shoppers. She made her way to the new store, her eyes scanning the crowded racks for the sweater.
As she reached for the sweater, a store clerk swooped in, snatching it out of her hands.
“I want to purchase that,” Franny Granny said, trying to keep her cool.
But the clerk’s response was icy.
“We don’t sell those to people like you,” she said, her voice dripping with disdain.
Franny Granny’s eyes welled up with tears as the clerk continued to insult her, mocking her outfit and her age.
But Franny Granny refused to back down. She stood tall, her eyes flashing with determination, she grabbed the sweater back. She went to the cashier at the front of the store but that cashier had heard everything.
“I’m so sorry about how you were treated,” the clerk said, her voice filled with kindness. “I’ll make sure to speak to our manager about Stella’s behavior.”
Franny Granny left the store, the sweater clutched tightly in her hands, but her heart still heavy with sadness. When she arrived home, Tracey was waiting for her, concern etched on her face.
“Granny, are you okay?” she asked, rushing to hug Franny Granny.
“I heard what Stella did to you. I’m so sorry.” said Tracey.
Franny Granny smiled, hugging Tracey tightly. “It’s okay, dear. I would do anything for you.”
Just then, Franny Granny’s phone pinged, signaling an email. She opened it, her eyes widening in surprise. “This can’t be real,” she said, showing the email to Tracey.
“You’ve been invited to the Christmas Building!” Tracey exclaimed. Franny Granny’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she read the email again. A limo arrived soon after, whisking Franny Granny away to the Christmas Building.
As she stepped inside, she was greeted by the warm smile of Lost Christmas Tree.
“Welcome, Franny Granny,” he said, his voice filled with kindness. “We hope you enjoy your stay with us. We have lots of food, music, and dancing.”
Franny Granny’s eyes sparkled with delight.
“I love dancing,” she said, twirling around the room. “But I don’t know why I’m here.”
Lost Christmas Tree chuckled.
“You were chosen because you are such a sincere and kind person,” he said. “We know about the incident at the mall, and we want to honor you for your courage and determination.”
Franny Granny’s heart swelled with gratitude as she accepted the award. She spent the rest of the evening dancing and laughing with the other guests, feeling like a queen. As the night drew to a close, Franny Granny thanked Lost Christmas Tree and the other guests for an unforgettable evening.
“This has been the best Christmas season ever,” she said, her eyes shining with happiness.
And as she returned home, surrounded by the love and support of her family, Franny Granny knew that this was a Christmas she would never forget.
