Volunteering on Thanksgiving

Dorothy sighed, switching off the television.

“The news is so depressing,” she said, shaking her head. “I can’t listen to it anymore.”

Thankful Thomas nodded in understanding, his eyes filled with empathy.

“We are so fortunate,” he said, his voice filled with gratitude. “We have our health and, even more important, we have our family.”

Dorothy’s expression softened, her eyes warming with agreement.

“We do have a lot to be thankful for,” she said, her voice filled with conviction. “There are still lots of families with missing children, no roof over their heads, or no food to eat.”

Thankful Thomas stood up, his movements energetic and purposeful.

“Come on,” he said, grabbing their coats from the hook. “I know a shelter that could certainly use our help, and I know a certain daughter and granddaughter who would love to see us.”

Dorothy’s face lit up with a smile as she stood up, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.

“Absolutely,” she said, her voice filled with excitement.

Together, they made their way to the shelter, the crisp autumn air invigorating their senses. As they entered the warm and welcoming building, they were greeted by the familiar faces of their daughter, Jocelyn, and granddaughter, Quincey.

Jocelyn and Quincey were hard at work, their faces flushed with happiness as they sorted donations and served meals to those in need. Their eyes lit up with joy as they saw Thankful Thomas and Dorothy, and they rushed over to hug them tightly.

“Happy Thanksgiving!” Jocelyn and Quincey exclaimed in unison, their voices filled with love and gratitude.

As they hugged, Thankful Thomas and Dorothy felt a sense of peace and contentment wash over them. They knew they had made the right decision in coming to the shelter, and they were grateful for the opportunity to give back to their community.

“We realized that we are very fortunate,” Thankful Thomas said, his voice filled with humility.

“We felt we needed to be here,” Dorothy added, her eyes shining with compassion. “There is no place we would rather be than with our two girls.”

Moral of this Story:
