A Source of Water
“I’m going to search for a water source,” said Desert Kid, wiping the sweat from his brow. “This heat is unbearable, and our supplies are running low.”
With a determined look, he filled his water bottle, packed a lunch, and set off towards the north.
As he walked, the scorching sun beat down on him, and the dry earth crunched beneath his feet. Desert Kid trudged on, his eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of water. But all he saw were dry creek beds and withered plants. Sweat dripped from his forehead, and he took a tiny sip from his water bottle, savoring the precious liquid.
After an hour of walking, Desert Kid decided to rest and eat his lunch. He sat under a sparse tree, taking small bites of his sandwich and apple. As he looked around, he thought he saw a glimmer of water in the distance. But as he approached, it vanished, leaving him with nothing but sand and disappointment.
Just when Desert Kid was about to give up, he spotted a small lake in the distance. His heart leaped with joy, and he quickened his pace. As he reached the lake’s edge, he removed his shoes, shirt, and hat and plunged into the cool water, splashing and laughing with abandon.
After his refreshing swim, Desert Kid returned home, eager to share his discovery with his parents. Together, they filled containers with water and returned to the lake for a late-night swim under the starry sky.
“This is pure bliss,” said Mother, her eyes shining with gratitude. “Thank you for finding us this oasis, Desert Kid.”
“Yes, water is life,” added Father, smiling at his son. “We’re so proud of you for persevering and finding this treasure.”
From that day on, Desert Kid and his parents visited the lake every hot summer day, cherishing their secret haven and the joy it brought them. As they swam and laughed together, Desert Kid knew that he had truly made a difference in their lives, and that was the greatest reward of all.
