Hungry as a Hippo

“It is a beautiful spring day,” said Harvey Hippo. “And, I am starving. I need to find some nice fresh green grass to eat.”

Harvey Hippo looked around. There was a little bit of green grass growing where he was standing but not enough for a hippo to eat.

Harvey took a little walk. He did find a field full of tall green grass. He started eating it and soon the field was empty.

“Oh, what have I done?” Harvey asked himself. “I have eaten all the grass in this field.”

Harvey Hippo was nice and full but he was also very sad and disappointed in himself. Over the next few days, Harvey walked from field to field, eating all the grass he could. He started feeling better about himself because he realized there were lots of fields full of green grass and the fields he was already eating out of, grew back in a few days.

“I shouldn’t feel bad,” said Harvey Hippo. “It looks like I won’t run out of fresh green grass to eat for a very long time.”

Moral of this Story:

  • There are always lots of fields full of green grass everywhere in the spring.
  • Example: Harvey Hippo was disappointed about there not having any green grass to eat but he found out there was plenty of green grass for him.
