Finding Summer Food
“It is a beautiful summer day,” said Beatrice Bee, as she flew around Storyland.
Beatrice Bee flew from the edge of the Pacific Ocean, across a field, over a large transport truck that was at a rest stop at the side of the road, across a busy highway and onto a picnic table. All that flying made her very hungry.
“What will I get myself to eat?” Beatrice Bee asked herself.
Beatrice Bee looked around at her surroundings. She saw a coffee shop. There were a lot of people coming in and out of the coffee shop. Beatrice Bee saw a young business woman, carrying a cup of coffee.
As the woman walked past the picnic table, Beatrice Bee was sitting on, the woman set the coffee cap down. She spilled some of it on the picnic table but, she didn’t see it.
Beatrice Bee took a sip of the spilled coffee but, she didn’t like the taste of it. She thought it was very bitter.
“The coffee would never satisfy my hunger,” said Beatrice Bee. “I have to find something else to eat.”
Beatrice Bee was about to fly away, when an apple fell to the ground right beside the picnic table. Beatrice Bee flew over to where the apple was.
“That is too bad,” said Beatrice Bee, examining the apple. “That apple is rotted.”
Beatrice Bee noticed something shiny on the east side of the apple tree. It was a full can of orange pop.
“It isn’t even open,” said Beatrice Bee. “I would never be able to open it.”
Beatrice Bee was still hungry. She saw a discarded wrapper laying on the ground. She went over to see what was inside of it.
“Oh my!” exclaimed Beatrice Bee, holding her nose. ‘ ‘I won’t be eating that.”
Inside the wrapper were pieces of an onion that someone had scraped off their burger and threw away.
Finally, Beatrice Bee found some food for herself. She spotted a flower garden over to the north of the picnic table.
“I can get lots of nectar to eat from these flowers,” said Beatrice Bee, happily.”
Beatrice Bee ate as much of the nectar as she could and then continued on her way.
