Forgetful Fred Forgot to Cook Breakfast on Mother’s Day
“Today is Mother’s Day,” said Forgetful Fred looking over at his wife, Sarah, who was sleeping. “I think I will cook breakfast for her.”
Forgetful Fred went quietly into the kitchen. He grabbed the morning paper from the front steps and he sat down at the kitchen table.
“I will read the paper for a few minutes,” said Forgetful Fred to himself. “Then I will make breakfast.”
Forgetful Fred always drank a cup of coffee while reading the paper. He got up, made the coffee and noticed a pile of dishes in the sink.
“I better do the dishes,” said Forgetful Fred.
Forgetful Fred did the dishes. Then he took his cup of coffee and sat down at the kitchen table and read the newspaper. It wasn’t long before Forgetful Fred had forgotten all about making breakfast for Sarah because he was so engrossed in the paper.
“Forgetful Fred,” said Sarah, standing in the kitchen doorway. “Good morning.”
“Oh dear!” exclaimed Forgetful Fred, realizing an hour had passed since he sat down. “Happy Mother’s Day. I was going to make breakfast for you. I forgot all about it.”
“That is okay,” said Sarah. “At least you remembered that it is Mother’s Day.”
“Yes,” laughed Forgetful Fred. “I did, didn’t I? I have an idea. Why don’t I take you out for Mother’s Day breakfast?”
“I would love that,” said Sarah.
Forgetful Fred and Sarah enjoyed a nice Mother’s Day breakfast together.
