Remembrance Day in Canada

Remembrance Day in Canada is a big celebration. Canadian soldiers fought in the first and second world wars. Many, many soldiers died in these two wars. If it were not for these brave soldiers that lost their lives for us, we would not have our freedom that we take so much for granted today.

Today we wear our poppies on our lapels and we remember in silence at the 11th hour, the 11th minute, the 11th day of the 11th month, the soldiers that risked their lives for our safety and freedom. We remember how these soldiers risked their lives for us and our safety and our freedom. We remember how these soldiers fought for us. We remember the dedication and determination of these soldiers. We celebrate our freedom because of these brave soldiers.

There is a new war these days that we must remember on November 11, as well. That is the war of terrorism. Canadians will never forget September 11, 2001 and how our neighbours, the United States was the target of a war that tore at our hearts, too. September 11 was a day that sickens our very souls. This new war, the war of terrorism, is all about fighting an enemy who is cowardly. This enemy strikes at innocent children and bystanders and attacks wherever they feel like it, however they feel like it.

We have lots to remember and to be thankful for on Remembrance Day. Wear your poppies proud.
