The Annual Harvest Feast

““Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have some of Apple Monster’s most delicious apples for our Annual Harvest Feast,” Apple Monster overheard a worker ant talking to Queen Ant.

“That will never happen,” replied Queen Ant. “We were very lucky to strike that deal with him that allows us to pick any of the apples that have fallen on the ground. We don’t want to push our luck.”

“Just think of the yummy applesauce and apple pie we could make,” said the worker ant, pretending not to hear what Queen Ant had said to him.

“Did I hear you say applesauce and apple pie?” asked Apple Monster.

“Yes,” said the worker ant. “Our Annual Harvest Feast is coming up soon.”

“I never heard of the Annual Harvest Feast before,” said Apple Monster. “How come I have never been invited?”

“We just never thought you would want to go,” replied Queen Ant before the worker ant could say anything else.

“If there is applesauce and apple pie,” said Apple Monster, licking his lips, “I would love to go.”

“There would only be applesauce and apple pie if we had some of your most delicious apples,” explained the worker ant, while Queen Ant stepped on his toe.

Apple Monster carefully considered what the ants wanted. As much as he wanted to keep his apples for himself and as much as he despised the ants, he couldn’t resist applesauce and apple pie.

“I will tell you what,” stated Apple Monster. “For every jar of applesauce and every apple pie you make, you will split them with me.”

“That is very kind of you,” said Queen Ant, giving the worker ant a look of disapproval if he were to say another word.

“Then we have a deal,” said Apple Monster. “I will see you at the Annual Harvest Feast.”

“Nothing like inviting yourself,” whispered the worker ant once Apple Monster walked away.

“You have a job to do,” instructed Queen Ant. “Go get the apples from Apple Monster before he changes his mind.”

“Me and my big mouth,” laughed the worker ant.

“I tried to warn you,” said Queen Ant, smiling.

Moral of this Story:

  • Generosity can lead to shared happiness.
  • Example: Despite his initial reluctance and feelings towards the ants, this act of sharing leads to an agreement that benefits both parties and allows Apple Monster to participate in the Annual Harvest Feast.
