A Warm Father’s Day Hug

“I’m sorry dad,” said Ollie the Oil Field Worker. “I won’t be able to make it home for Father’s Day. It is just too crazy here.”

“It is okay son,” said Ollie’s Dad. “I understand.”

Ollie could hear the disappointment in his dad’s voice. What his dad didn’t know is that he is going home for Father’s Day. He wants to surprise his dad.

Fathers day morning came. Ollie knocked on the door to his dad’s apartment. His dad opened the door and Ollie could see the tears in his dad’s eyes.

“Hey Dad,” said Ollie. “I’m sorry about lying to you on the phone the other day. I wanted to surprise you. Happy Father’s Day!”

Dad gave him the biggest, warmest hug ever. Ollie was so glad he made the decision to come home for Father’s Day.

“This is such a pleasant surprise!” cried Dad.

“I never realized how much I missed your hugs,” said Ollie.

Dad was so happy to have Ollie home for Father’s Day. It had been rough because Ollie’s Mom passed away about a year ago and Ollie, his only child, worked miles away in the oil fields.

“I suppose you will have to get back to work soon, “said Dad. “How long can you stay?”

“I can stay until next week,” said Ollie.

Dad was thrilled that Ollie would be around for a week.

“We should go fishing,” said Ollie.

“Yes,” said Dad. “We should. I have been meaning to get up to the cottage soon anyway.”

Ollie and Dad spent most of the rest of that week at the cottage. They had a lot of fun together. They had time to relax and enjoy themselves. They had time to reflect on life and enjoy each other’s company.

“That was the best Father’s Day ever,” said Dad, when he took Ollie to the airport at the end of the week.

“It was nice spending time with you,” said Ollie. “We need to do it again.”

“Yes definitely,” said Dad, with tears in his eyes.

Ollie gave Dad a big warm hug, wiped away his tears and grabbed his backpack.

“Love you son,” waved Dad, as Ollie headed towards security.

“Love you too Dad,” said Ollie.
