An Easter Holiday

Pirate Pete stepped onto the deck of his pirate ship. He was in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It was a beautiful sunny morning. Pirate Pete thought it would be a great day to scrub down the deck.

“Where are Slappy and Rusty?” asked Pirate Pete, surprised his crew members weren’t out on the deck already.

Pirate Pete went to find them. He was surprised when he saw they were still in bed.

“Come on,” said Pirate Pete. “it is a beautiful day. Let’s go scrub the deck.”

“We aren’t working today,” said Slappy.

“What do you mean you aren’t working today?” asked Pirate Pete.

“We were told not to,” said Rusty.

“By who?” asked Pirate Pete.

“Your mother,” said a voice from behind him.

“Good morning, Mother” said Pirate Peter to his mother. “Why did you tell my crew that they didn’t have to work today?”

“It is Easter,” said Mother. “Your crew shouldn’t work on Easter.”

“Easter,” said Pirate Pete. “Well, now, that is different. Nobody should have to work on Easter. Let’s celebrate!”

Pirate Pete ordered the cook to prepare a huge Easter feast for the entire crew. Mother had already arranged an Easter egg hunt for them. They all had a wonderful Easter day and the next day the entire crew, including Pirate Pete felt refreshed. They all had twice the energy they normally did.

“There is something to be said about holidays,” said Pirate Pete. “I think we are going to have to implement a few more during the year.”

The crew loved this idea very much.

Moral of this Story:

  • Holidays can boost the morale of your workers.
  • Example: Pirate Pete’s mother gave the crew the day off for Easter. While this upset Pirate Pete at first, he found the crew were more productive the next day.
