Mountain Kid and the Mountain Fire
It was very hot in the mountains. Mountain Kid decided it was a good day to go for a hike.
Mountain Kid climbed to the top of the mountain and once there, he noticed the sun had started to fade. Big dark clouds were rolling in. Mountain Kid heard a loud roar of thunder. He then saw a bright streak of lightning light up the sky.
“Oh no!” exclaimed Mountain Kid, seeing a spark start up from the lightning. “The mountain is on fire. It is so dry here. I don’t think I am going to be able to put it out. I don’t have the proper equipment. Also, I need to get off this mountain before I burn up in the fire.”
Mountain Kid carefully but quickly started down the mountain. He saw smoke filling the air. The spark from the lightning was now ten foot tall flames. It was getting very dark because the sun was blocked out from the smoke.
“This is very scary,” said Mountain Kid, finally down from the mountain.
Mountain Kid looked up. A much larger portion of the mountain was now burning. The flames were about twenty to thirty feet in the air. The smoke covered the sky and Mountain Kid was finding it difficult to breath.
“I have to call the fire department,” said Mountain Kid, going into his cabin.
Within the hour, the fire department had a water bomber in the air. It wasn’t long before they had the fire put out.
“Thank you for being so quick to call us,” said the captain of the fire department.
“I just wish I could have done more,” said Mountain Kid.
“It is okay,” said the captain. “You did everything you were supposed to. Getting yourself out of harm’s way was the first step. Calling us, the second one. You did great.”
“Thank you for responding so quickly and getting the water bomber here so fast as well,” said Mountain Kid.
“It is all part of my job,” said the captain.
