Home-Cooked Happiness

Crystal Frost sat at the restaurant table, fiddling with her napkin as she gazed out the window at the snow-covered streets. Her brow was furrowed in concern, and her bright blue eyes were clouded with worry.

“We were on a winning streak for the last few games,” she said, her voice laced with agitation.

Gerard, her boyfriend and the goalie for the Storyland Tales hockey team, reached out and took her hand, his eyes filled with reassurance.

“We’ll get back to our winning streak once Aunt Matty feels well again,” he said, his deep voice calm and soothing.

Crystal’s face scrunched up in concern.

“If all it takes is a home-cooked meal,” she said, determination etched on her face, “I’d be happy to cook for you.”

Gerard smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

“It can’t just be any home-cooked meal,” he said, his voice filled with conviction. “It has to be Aunt Matty’s home-cooked meal. Can you cook like she does?”

Crystal’s Great Aunt Matty was in the hospital, recovering from a nasty fall that had left her with a sprained ankle and a bout of pneumonia. But she was on the mend, and Crystal was eager to have her home. It was Aunt Matty who had first started cooking home-cooked meals for Gerard, after she’d spotted him shopping for greens at the grocery store. Once Gerard had started eating properly, the Storyland Tales had started winning, and they hadn’t looked back since.

“I can cook just like Aunt Matty,” Crystal said, a confident smile spreading across her face. “After all, she taught me how to cook. Come over Sunday at 7.”

Gerard grinned, his eyes sparkling with anticipation. “I’ll be there,” he said, leaning over to kiss Crystal’s cheek.

Aunt Matty was released from the hospital on Saturday, and Crystal was overjoyed to have her home. As she watched Crystal prepare Sunday dinner, she couldn’t help but offer a few loving tips and hints.

“Don’t forget to add a pinch of salt, dear,” she said, her voice weak but warm. “And make sure the roast is nice and tender.”

Crystal smiled, feeling grateful for her aunt’s guidance.

As Gerard arrived on Sunday evening, the aroma of roasting meat and freshly baked bread wafted through the air, making his stomach growl with anticipation. Crystal smiled, her eyes sparkling with pride, as she presented him with a perfectly cooked roast beef dinner.

Gerard took one bite, and his eyes widened in amazement.

“This is incredible,” he said, his voice filled with admiration. “You’re a natural, Crystal.”

As they sat down to enjoy the meal together, Aunt Matty smiled, her eyes shining with happiness.

“I knew you could do it, dear,” she said, patting Crystal’s hand.

And as they finished the meal, Gerard grinned, his eyes sparkling with confidence.

“I think we’re back on track,” he said, leaning over to kiss Crystal’s cheek. “The Storyland Tales are going to win again, and it’s all thanks to your amazing cooking, Crystal.”

As the Storyland Tales took to the ice, Crystal and Aunt Matty cheered Gerard on from the stands, their voices hoarse from screaming his name. Gerard, focused and determined in goal, blocked shot after shot, leading his team to a thrilling victory. As the final buzzer sounded, Crystal and Aunt Matty leapt to their feet, cheering and hugging each other in excitement. Gerard grinned, pumping his fist in triumph, as he made his way off the ice.

After the game, as they walked out of the arena together, Gerard turned to Crystal and smiled.

“You know, I think I’m the luckiest guy in the world,” he said, his eyes filled with love and admiration. “I’ve got an amazing girlfriend who can cook like a pro, and I’ve got a team that’s winning again. What more could I ask for?”

Crystal smiled, her heart full of joy, and leaned over to kiss Gerard’s cheek.

“I think you’ve got everything you need right here,” she said, snuggling into his side.
